Meet the artist:
MELISSA DINWOODIE
Melissa Dinwoodie is a visual artist living in the Okanagan Valley. Since graduating with her BFA from UBCO in 2001, she has practiced art for over twenty years in cities such as Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver. She specializes in acrylic and mixed-media painting and illustration. Melissa loves creating layers and depth with colour and texture, which is her abstract ‘play.’ Focusing on figurative and portrait art, she is fascinated with the connection between the viewer and the subject matter. She believes that art can be the communication between people that ignites conversations, relationships, education, and growth. Her newest work plays with geometric patterns juxtaposed with loosely painted figures.
ALANA EVANS
Alana Evans graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design with a BFA in Visual Arts. Her passion for art and creative expression started as a child growing up in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. She currently resides in Langley, BC. Inspired by her nostalgia for the BC terrain and its environment, Alana is moved to capture the lakes, mountains, flora and ever-changing skies. She is interested in depth and texture, and with the layers of oil medium work, the canvas becomes as rich and complex as she is. Alana fits into the fauvism style that utilizes colour for an emotional connection and response to her expressive painterly brushwork. Her paintings can be described as warm with dark and moody undertones, inviting the viewer to explore the dream-like quality of her memories in the landscape she grew up in.
As an oil painter, Alana prefers to paint on birch panels primed with transparent gesso. The transparent gesso allows the warm wood tone to show through the transparent layers of paint and gives the surface a 'paper-like' feeling. Building up the painting from layers of colours gives the piece dimension, and then adding oil bar paint adds textural interest.
Alana’s work has been shown in gallery shows throughout BC and is held in private collections in Canada and the United States.
BRANDY WYATT
Brandy Barry-Wyatt was born and raised under Northern Alberta's big skies and resides in Mountainous, BC. Her current work involves a distinctive style of Contemporary Western Wildlife and domestic Animal Subjects. Her creativity is ignited by her passion for the great outdoors and the beautiful wildlife that flourishes just a short distance away. Living in the Interior of British Columbia, Canada, one of the most stunning wilderness refuges in the world that sometimes offers opportunities to get up close and personal with rare and majestic animals. The energy that these animals exude is both captivating and alluring.
‘I seek to emanate that elusive beauty in my colour-infused paintings of these amazing creatures and the personalities they exude.’ Brandy’s paintings undeniably radiate adventure and dynamism, much like her outlook on life, as she seeks to exemplify the brilliance of our animal planet through her artwork. Brandy is a self-taught contemporary artist with a fair roster of art classes early in life, eventually studying 2D and 3D animation in College. She has been practising since age nine and started with a love of drawing horses. Many of her younger years were spent travelling with music and Arts Festivals, and she could be found doing temporary tattoos and selling small pieces of art. Before taking up animal subjects, her work was mostly about human figures.
Brandy puts a significant amount of energy into every painting so that it will not only be perfect in your home now but will also be an investment that will continue to rise. “It’s exciting to me every time I sell a painting because it means I can spread my mission to live outside the lines, to cherish every valuable second of life, and most importantly, to Surround Yourself with the people and places you love in bold colour!”
